Power Plant Tours
This year's Member Energy Resources Tour is scheduled for July 23 - 25, 2019
On the first day, we will visit Minnkota Power’s control center in Grand Forks. From there we will make our way to Mandan, N.D. We will end our first day with a presentation and banquet dinner at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Mandan, N.D. We encourage you to bring your swimsuit if you’d like to enjoy the pool.
The second day we will visit the Milton R. Young Station near Center, N.D., where our base-load generation is produces. This will also include a tour of the BNI Coal open pit mines where machines strip the coal and then reclaim the land so it can once again be used for agriculture. Weather permitting, this is also where we get to see the huge electric drag line Liberty up close, with its 300-foot boom and 70-cubic-yard bucket, which is used to remove the overburden soil from the coal. After lunch we will take a guided tour of the Garrison Dam and tour the hydro-electric plant on the Missouri River.
On the third day, we will visit and tour Fort Mandan and the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, at Washburn, N.D. After a stop in Carrington, N.D. for lunch, we will make our way back to Bemidji.
The cost to members for the three day trip is $100 per person or $175 per double occupancy, which covers the charter bus fare, hotel, tours and all meals.
Members who have not been on this trip in the past are encouraged to go. Trip is limited to ages 12 and over. There is a considerable amount of walking on this trip, including stairs.
